Brother Hervé Zamor, re-elected Superior General of the Brothers of Christian Instruction of Ploërmel
'Servants of hope'. During the 28th General Chapter, which opened on 25 March in Aricia, Italy, the Brothers of Christian Instruction of Ploërmel elected their new General Council.
As religious educators, they are responsible for leading the LA MENNAIS International Educational Network, in conjunction with teachers, staff and the Mennaisian Family.
The 43 participants in this world assembly re-elected their Superior General and three Assistants for a new six-year term.
The new Council is composed as follows:
- Brother Hervé ZAMOR, Superior General (originally from Haiti)
- Brother Jean-Paul PEUZE, 1st Assistant (originally from France)
- Brother Vincent SSEKATE, Assistant (originally from Uganda)
- Brother Miguel ARISTONDO, assistant (from Spain)
An audience with Pope Francis is scheduled for 22 April in Rome, and the renewal of the Institute's consecration to Mary at the Basilica of St Mary Major on 24 April, the closing day of the General Chapter.
The Brothers, who number 700, including 120 in France, are present in 26 countries on five continents, serving a network of 200 schools and educational centres, catering for 120,000 children and young people with the help of 12,000 educators and staff.
A new foundation in Timor Leste has been announced for September 2024.
In September, the 200th anniversary of the PLOERMEL Mother House will be marked by a number of events.
