Committed to synodal conversion
Letter to Pope Francis from the participants in the 97th USG Assembly
Rome, 27th of May, 2022
Pope Francis
Vatican City
Your Holiness,
we wish you peace and good health in the Lord, from the 97th Assembly of the Union of Superiors General that is taking place in these days and has as its theme, "Synodality and Mission".
In our sessions we have heard detailed reports of the contributions of religious women and men and members of societies of apostolic life throughout the world to the Synod of Bishops on Synodality that will reach its final stages in 2023. As the process continues, we welcome the work that has been done which in itself has been an example of synodality.
We recognise the call to a "synodal conversion" that we all must answer and we look forward with you in hope, praying that this Synod may be a time of "authentic spiritual discernment" that will enable the Church "to cooperate more effectively with the work of God in history" and give the Church the form and direction it needs now and in the future in order to be faithful to its calling and mission in the world.
At the same time, we wish to offer you our sincere thanks and support for your leadership in all aspects of the life of the Church. We are particularly grateful for the rescriptum you issued on the 18th of May, which opens the way for even richer discernment in our communities.
May Mary, Mother of the Church, sustain us all as we journey towards greater participation, deeper communion, and ever joyful mission.
