New General Council of the Brothers of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The 36th General Chapter of the Congregation of the Brothers of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary (FIC) opened on 4 August 2024 at the chapel of the In-Service Training Centre (ISTC) in Wa, Ghana. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, the Chapter began with the theme 'Renewal of our consecrated life and mission in the spirit of synodality.'
The opening Mass was presided over by the Bishop of Wa, Bishop Francis Bomansaan, and was attended by many members of the FIC community and other religious congregations.
The Chapter, officially opened by the incumbent Superior General Br. Augustine Kubdaar, provided for three weeks of intense work, including discussions on mission and renewal of religious life, drafting and voting on proposals, and the election of the new four-member General Council:
- Br. Augustine Kubdaar Superior General
- Br. Michael Sidharta Vicar
- Br. Raphael Besigrinee General Councillor
- Br. Augustinus Marjito General Councillor
Delegates also discussed leadership and vocation promotion, and 21 resolutions were adopted to guide the congregation over the next six years.
The Chapter was enriched by moments of prayer and celebrations that emphasised the international dimension of the congregation, culminating on 24 August with the speech of the re-elected Superior General, Brother Augustine Kubdaar, after which he declared the Chapter officially closed.
