Father Kevin Storey re-elected Superior General of the Congregation of St. Basil
July 13, 2022- The Congregation of St. Basil (Basilian Fathers) re-elected Father Kevin Storey, CSB as Superior General, effective immediately for a four-year term.
"I am honored and humbled to be re-elected as Superior General. It's a wonderful opportunity to serve the confrères as we discern the best way to teach goodness, discipline and knowledge in a rapidly changing Church and society." said Storey.
Also elected to the General Council were: Father John Huber, CSB as Vicar General; Father Morgan Rice, CSB as Second Councillor; Father Pedro Mora, CSB as Third Councillor; and Father Paul English, CSB"Fourth Councillor.
The General Council for the first time in our history, will be operating at least as much in Spanish as we will in English. Choosing Pedro Mora, a non-bilingual Colombian, to serve on the General Council is a testament to Pedro's leadership gifts and the importance of the Colombian and Mexican communities to the Congregation's future." remarked Storey.
The
elections took place on Wednesday, July 13 as part of the Congregation's
General Chapter held in King City, Ontario from July 10-13. In accordance with
the Basilian Way of Life, the General Chapter is a time, "to review the state
of the Congregation and plan for its future, to make new laws or modify
existing ones so that the Community may better fulfill its mission, and to
elect the Superior General and General Councillors." Storey will serve as the
Congregation's 10th Superior General since its reunification in 1955.
Storey has served as the Congregation's Superior General since 2018, when he left St. Thomas High School in Houston, Texas, where he had ministered since 2004, notably as the School's President from 2012. He has also served on the General Council as Second Councillor from 2010.
Storey was born in Madras (now Chennai), India. He first met the Basilians at Michael Power High School in Toronto, Ontario, where he was inspired to explore his vocation. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 27, 1992 in St. Basil's Church in Toronto and holds a Master of Divinity from the University of St. Michael's College; a Master in Pastoral Counselling from Assumption University; and a Master of Education, Administrative Leadership from the University of St. Thomas.
