On May 31, 2024, a new General Council was elected at the conclusion of the 19th General Chapter, held by of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement

The new Minister General, Father Emil Tomaskovic, SA, was born in Yonkers, N.Y., June 3, 1944. He entered high school at St. John's Atonement Seminary, Montour Falls, in 1957 and made his vows in 1963. He attended St. Pius X College at Graymoor and the Catholic University of America, Washington D.C. where he received degrees in Philosophy and Theology. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1971 at St. Columbanus Church, Peekskill, NY.
He had already been elected Minister General of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement in 1989, and was re-elected for a second term in 1994, as such, he was responsible for guiding the friars in their pastoral, social, and ecumenical ministries throughout the world until May of 1999.

P. Emil replaced Fr. Brian Terry who was SA Minister General from 2014 to 2024.

  • Fr. Jan Janoszka, SA, Second General Councilor
  • Br. Paolo Nicosia, SA, Third General Councilor
  • Fr. Ken Clenik, SA, Fourth General Councilor 

The new General Council begins leadership on July 6, 2024.
