New General Council of the Society of Mary (Marianists)
The 36th General Chapter of the Society of Mary (Marianists), meeting in Rome from 6 July to 27 July, has elected a new General Council. André Fétis (Perigueux, France, 1961) was re-elected as Superior General for a second term and Pablo Rambaud (Madrid, Spain, 1965) was also endorsed for a second term as Assistant for Religious Life. The two new additions were Dennis Bautista ('Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawaii, 1973) and Jérôme Balakiyéma (Kara, Togo, 1982), elected as assistant for education and assistant for temporal affairs, respectively.
33 religious elected by their brothers, representing the various Marianist presences in 25 countries around the world, discerned and decided together the direction of the Congregation for the next six years.
The priority theme was Youth Pastoral, on which lines of action were given, and in addition to listening to the voices of many young people, they counted on the presence and contribution of the representatives of the other branches of the Marianist charismatic family: the lay communities (CLM), the religious (FMI) and the secular institute (AM).
The election of the new General Council for the next six years was carried out respecting, as in all the governing bodies of the Congregation, parity in the mixed composition (lay religious and religious priests).
