New Superior General of the Discalced Carmelites

The 92nd General Chapter of the Discalced Carmelites is being held in Rome since Monday 30th August in La Salle House, a facility that belongs to the Brothers of the Christian Schools.
On September 4, 2021, at 4 p.m., the Chapter members met in the Chapel to invoke the Holy Spirit before the election of the new General. They began by singing the Veni Creator Spiritus, then listened to a reading from the Word of God and from the Rule of St Albert, and finally they spent time in silent prayer. After this, they went to the Chapter room to proceed to the election of the new Father General. The Chapter Assembly elected Fr. Miguel Marquez Calle (Miguel de Maria) as the new General of the Order.
Father Miguel was born on 5th October 1965 in Plasencia (Cáceres), Spain. He made his first religious profession on 21st October 1985, solemn profession on 21st October 1989 and was ordained priest on 23rd June 1990.
After the election, they returned to the chapel to sing the Te Deum and to greet the new Superior.
They concluded by singing the Salve Regina.
