The Subiaco Cassinese Congregation  has a new Abbot President

The 21st General Chapter of the Subiaco  Cassinese Congregation, O.S.B, was held from 30 August to 7 September in the Abbey of Montserrat (Catalonia), which is exceptionally hosting the Chapter on the occasion of its Millennium celebration.

The first day, in the presence of 90 abbots and delegates of the Congregation's monasteries from around the world, began with the report by the Abbot President Guillermo Arboleda on the last eight years, and continued with the reports from the first provinces.

During the plenary session on 5 September, Dom Ignasi M. Fossas, monk of Montserrat, was elected as the new Abbot President, who will take the place of the Abbot Guillermo A. Tamayo, who led the Congregation from 2016 to the present.

P. Ignasi M. Fossas, born in 1960 in Aiguafreda (Barcelona), graduated in Medicine in 1983 and entered the monastery in 1986, where he made his solemn profession in 1992 and was ordained a priest in 2002. He holds a licence and doctorate in Liturgy from the Pontifical Liturgical Institute in Rome, as well as a diploma in Archivistics from the Vatican Secret Archives. A professor of liturgy in Barcelona and Montserrat, he was a visiting professor in Rome. He has held various roles in the monastery, including spokesman, bursar and prior. He is the author of books and articles on liturgy, spirituality and monasticism.
